Hi! Uhm. I love your art. And im working on a comic right now with my boyfriend and I was wondering if you had any suggestions to help with angles and motions and action scenes such? And if you had any hand reffrences I could use oAo;;;
Im a bit new to comics and such, and anything will help really. Thank you <33 c:
Oi, I’m not the best person when it comes to giving advice, especially since I’ve never done a comic before OTL, but I will try. Stock photos are good help you out with angles and stuff. deviantART has a great variety of stock images, or you can take some yourself! Perhaps take a walk and just take random photos of people and buildings.
Also looking at your favorite comics could help out too! Carciphona by Shilin I think is a great comic and has amazing action scenes and stuff if you wanna check it out ;u; I think looking at how others do things is very helpful.
Uhm hand references? There’s this that I saw floating around Tumblr a few times that looks helpful~ Most of the time, though, I just usually look at my own hand for reference.
The best advice I can really give you, though, is to just go for it! Sure it may not turn out exactly how you want it the first time or it may not look that great but it will if you stick with it. You improve every time you draw.
I’m really sorry that I’m not very helpful u_u But I wish you luck on your comic!
you too are attending college? wow, and liberal arts... wait, what's in liberal arts?
Yes u____u I only have one semester (4 classes) left! And sorry the late reply I had to go back into my archives to find something haha (plus multitasking is hard OTL) Uh ok, anyway
Liberal Arts is basically just a little bit of everything. At the community college I attend I have to take like a certain amount of credits for each ‘subject’ plus electives. So like I have to take some Communication (English and Public Speaking), Mathematics, Lab Science, Technology (computer courses), Social Science (i.e psychology, anthropology, etc), Humanites (i.e. art history, elementary chinese, etc), History, and Diversity classes.
I copied and pasted that LOL so if it’s a different font that’s why
When you draw/doodle peoples (full body), do you have references for poses and folds of clothes, etc, or do you just come up with everything in your head?
Most of the time everything is from my head OTL I normally don’t use any references… If I ever use references, though, I’ll say like ‘refs used’ and I’ll try to credit if I remember/can find the picture @_@
That ramble thing about not having backstories to work and things - YOU ROCK. It's so true; I don't ever have an answer to those things either. I wanna draw, so I will. I wanna make her skin green and her eyes blue, because I like those colours. Don't ever worry about being judged; it takes you nowhere. Doing what you love makes you happy. And no one should take that away from you. :)
@_@ Wow I didn’t think people would read that haha D: I’m glad that you agree though, this has been bugging me for awhile and typing it out really helps u_u <3
first off i'd like to say that i absolutely love your art
also, i can only draw with reeally specific references and can't do it from imagination at all
Q//∆//Q T-thank you!
I’m not sure I’m the best person to give out tips but I’ll try my best. I feel as if I’m almost the opposite of you, I rarely use references. Most of the time I just don’t like looking up a reference because I feel that it would influence me too much, or I’m just too lazy LOL. Sometimes I’ll just take a random pic of myself and use that. But using references isn’t a bad thing!
Maybe you could find references that are less specific. Like find a bunch of references that all have different elements that you could use and combine them together, like a leg from one ref, an arm from another, etc. That way you can still put your own twist to it. Don’t just draw using one reference, use a whole bunch!
Also I suggest just taking a sketchbook and drawing whatever comes into your head without looking up references. This is what I do most of the time. I’ll usually take my larger sketchbook and scribble some quick thumbnails of whatever pops into my head (maybe write some notes down for later). And then when I want to actually sketch it out, I’ll reference my scribble and just draw from what I know.
You say you use references a lot, so you probably have a good understanding of anatomy. Don’t be afraid to just use what you know. It might not turn out exactly how you want to the first time, but just keep drawing!
This probably makes no sense, I’m really just rambling on about what I normally do OTL I’m sorry Q∆Q
Oi, hands. One of the hardest body parts to draw imo. My tip(s) for you are to use references! There are some great stock on dA (as well as other places, I’m sure) of just hands.
Usually I’m too lazy to look up refs online, though, so I’ll just use my own hands :P If you have a webcam on your computer you can easily take reference pictures of yourself. That’s what I do haha I have pictures of me holding a tea cup, pretending to hold something, pointing at something, etc etc.
Also draw draw draw draw! Try to do at least one hand study everyday. It may be hard to keep up with, but if you continue drawing and studying and practicing, it’ll become more natural to draw hands and stuff!
That last post~
She looks like she could be floating in water -- she's swimming upwards, which is why her hair seems a little more settled -- or maybe she should be wearing a sundress, gripping it because of the wind~
I'm terrible at explaining what I've pictured. ; n;
Ohhhh…interesting~ This is why I enjoy posting wips because I like reading what people have to say. I actually tried drawing what I had in mind but the pose didn’t quite fit her face, which is upsetting since I really like her face and hair :( I decided to sleep on it but my phone woke me up OTL But reading this message it gives me another idea? Hmmm I’ll put that drawing to the side for now and try to re-draw what I have in mind and hope it comes out good~ Hopefully you will see that face in a watery or windy picture at a later date ;) Thank you for the inspiration/input I really appreciate it! ♥ Also is that you in your icon cause you are super cute u///____///u
Holy Frick your art. . I love it. Holy. Any tips on drawing hair? You do I lovely and I don't...
@//u//@ O-oh thank you! Ahhh tips? Hmmm…Well looking at references of hairstyles is very helpful, especially if you are unable to do the hairstyle with your hair~ I also don’t try to draw every strand of hair, I usually try to put enough lines to show how the hair is supposed to fall over/around their head (sometimes I draw fancy swirly lines though) This probably makes no sense Q∆Q Sorry, I’m not good at tips OTL;;;
Are you talking about my ‘tea’ drawings or just in general? I’ll just answer for both… For my ‘tea’ drawings I didn’t do any shading. If it looks like there is shading it’s probably either just the way I took the picture or how I outlined their features. When I do shade though I either tend to just scribble a bit (like for quick sketches) or I do some light crosshatching~
What do you spray on your pencil drawings and why?
I spray them with a workable fixative spray to prevent smudging! I like it because it allows me to add more without worrying about ruining/smudging what I already have~ Here I’ll show you what the spray looks like!
Typically I don't silly chain thingies like these but it's kinda sweet and I feel you deserve it. I mean you do get my creative juice flowing on days I feel art dead and you seem like a really wonderful person that's great to be around. So tadaaaah!
BEAUTIFUL PERSON AWARD! Once you have been given this award, you are supposed to paste it in the ask of 8 people who deserve it. If you break the chain nothing will happen, but it’s always sweet to know that someone thinks you’re beautiful inside and out. ♥
I…I don’t even… Q//∆//Q ♥ This is so sweet thank you so much /sob
